WASHINGTON (June 26) - The Supreme Court struck down a ban on gay sex Thursday, ruling that the law was an unconstitutional violation of privacy.
The 6-3 ruling reverses course from a ruling 17 years ago that states could punish homosexuals for what such laws historically called deviant sex.
The case is a major reexamination of the rights and acceptance of gay people in the United States. More broadly, it also tests a state's ability to classify as a crime what goes on behind the closed bedroom doors of consenting adults.
Thursday's ruling invalidated a Texas law against ''deviate sexual intercourse with another individual of the same sex.''
Defending that law, Texas officials said that it promoted the institutions of marriage and family, and argued that communities have the right to choose their own standards.
The law ''demeans the lives of homosexual persons,'' Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote for the majority.
Laws forbidding homosexual sex, once universal, now are rare. Those on the books are rarely enforced but underpin other kinds of discrimination, lawyers for two Texas men had argued to the court.
The men ''are entitled to respect for their private lives,'' Kennedy wrote.
''The state cannot demean their existence or control their destiny by making their private sexual conduct a crime,'' he said.
Justices John Paul Stevens, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer agreed with Kennedy in full. Justice Sandra Day O'Connor agreed with the outcome of the case but not all of Kennedy's rationale. |

I am not the author of this essay. The following completely describes how I feel about someone in my life. Some details don't match up but the main idea should. You know who you are - Thanks.

I can't remember how it would start. I guess I would tease you too much or we were too full of energy to sit still anymore. We would laugh and push each other, throwing out insults that were ment to be more comical than anything else. Making faces at each other and claiming to be the strongest warrior while accusing the other of being a princess. You would run up and pounce on me. I would yell out in surprise and push my hands against your chest to keep you away. I didn't want you getting close enough to pin my shoulders. But at the same time I wished you were a lot closer. You were stronger than me, but I was pretty agile at slinking out of any grip you could come up with. I had to watch out for those strong soccer player legs, cause when they wrapped around me I was in danger of losing the game and of losing control. I often wondered if you ever had the same problem.
Really, I couldn't do much more than hope you'd get tired enough that I could pin you. I'd squirm out of your muscular grip and make for the door laughing, and then you'd throw your arm around my waist and throw me back in bed. The whole house would shake with the boom on my bedroom floor as our tangled bodies slipped off the bed. I can't believe my parents didn't yell at us. Maybe they did but we didn't hear them over your laughs and my yelps. Eventually we'd collapse in a tired heap. Sometimes you'd still be close to me, your chest on my back your left arm lazily draped on top of me.
Man, that was the best.
I wonder what you thought of when we both lay there breathing heavily. You knew I liked guys, and you knew that I liked you. And maybe those few minutes were just for me because you knew it felt good to me, or maybe it was because it felt alright to you, not too uncomfortable, and god knows you were alwayss secure in your own interests. Maybe you were just resting and you weren't even thinking of it. I was only glad that you were there. A few minutes later and yu'd pull aways, but in that small ammount of time I could pretend that things were different, that your girlfriends didn't matter, and that you saw how we were ment to be togeather too. Then it would be over. Time for video games, some fast food, or maybe just smoking on my parents back porch. I loved wrestling with you; it wasn't just just sexual. My attraction to you will always be much more than that. Even though I can't have you, thank you for giving me those funny sweaty innocent times that we fought in the softest way possible. |

I cant believe what I just did.
Julie asked me to go to grad parties.
My room was a mess. Anyone who was over yesterday would know.
And I was not showered or anything.
So I said I would be ready in like...20.
I cleaned my room in 7 minutes. Its immaculate.
How insane.
I took a shower in 5 minutes, shaving and shampooing and conditioning and exfolianting and all.
I got dressed in 2 minutes. Before cleaning, I threw an outfit in the drier.
I did my hair in a minute.
I did my face in a minute.
I look fucking hot.
My room is clean.
All in 15ish.
Julie is on her way. A little late but I got to relax.

So today was actually really good.
First block was more notes...like always. Norgren sent me to go get Loper in the beginning of the block.
Second block --- NO HUNDLEY! I stayed up till 2 doing most of my hw and she wasn't there...bitch. Actually it was nice. Arlie and I traveled that block...we walked and talked and were "Flight Attendants" to the class...hah.
Choir - We planned banquet. I went to Rodger's for a bit and I got my AP Lit reading guide. I fucking have to read Vonnegut. Blah, the one author I detest.
Spanish lasts soooo long. Ugly girl sat in front of me. She is so annoying and ugly. Blah.
After school, I came home. I'm home!
Haha. I was watching "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire...". This guy walks in and is acting like he's all that. And he sings and jokes around and he's annoying.
Annoying people need to die.
Haha.

Tori Amos - Cooling ~ The music and the words take me and put me @ ease. The words...wow..."Is your place in heaven worth giving up these kisses" and the end where she sings "Cooling" over and over. When I'm in love and the person I love dies I know it will be like that...where I want them t touch me so bad but they can't. So last night I started talking to this guy that my friend Matt from Ann Arbor knew from A2Huron, where we're competing for Regionals. His name is TJ, go figure. Last night we hit it off. Matt didnt think it would happen. We talked on the phone last night for an hour and half and today he stayed home from school and we talked on the phone for three hours...and then we talked online for an hour...then we talked for another hour on the phone...and then more onlineandthen more phone...
and then he went to dance and called me in the car on the way.....he just got there and we are still talking and we prob. wll until 7:30 wen he dances....

Good girl Mary (Jena Malone) can't believe it when she gets pregnant by her newly-gay boyfriend. She also can't believe the actions of her popular, relentlessly devout best friend, Hilary Faye (Mandy Moore), who's looking after her wheelchair-bound brother Roland (Macaulay Culkin), attempting to convert adamantly Jewish Cassandra (Eva Amurri), and trying to snag cute newcomer Patrick (Patrick Fugit), a hip skateboarding missionary. By the time Mary's secret is revealed, Hilary Faye has gone to extremes to get the outsiders expelled from school, with spectacular results, and Mary is forced to decide what's worth believing in the first place.
